I’ve photographed quite a few proposals, but never have I photographed a proposal that involved so many incredibly helpful and dedicated friends!
When Brenton reached out to me about capturing the moment he asked Ana to marry him, he had quite a few ideas and plans for the moment. After sifting through the options, we landed upon popping the question at White Point Garden in downtown Charleston. It wasn’t until the day of the proposal that I realized he’d expertly organized three of their closest friends to help me pull off the epic surprise, and they were dedicated to the job! (See photos below. Haha!) They hid behind trees and statues, asked other park goers to kindly wait a moment, and were basically my bodyguards to make certain I had the perfect shot when Brenton dropped to one knee.
When the moment came and Ana said yes, the entire park erupted in celebration! Such a sweet and joyful moment. Champagne was at the ready to celebrate, and we all laughed over the little white lies that had been told to pull off the proposal. We spent the next half hour or so dotting around the beautiful streets south of Broad commemorating this joyous occasion in their lives.
Little did Ana know, a host of family and friends were waiting nearby at Edmund’s Oast to celebrate the newly engaged couple, so when it came time for me to “say goodbye,” I wished Brenton and Ana farewell and scurried to get ahead of them in traffic.
The funniest part of this entire day? When I arrived to greet the waiting family and friends, I was showing some of the shots we’d captured on the back of my camera and swooning over how precious of a couple Brenton and Ana are. One of the friends who had been with us says, “Oh my gosh. I was cracking up, because those two are NOT ones to display public affection, but they did so good!” I was SHOCKED. I’d just spent the last 30 minutes with them as they rocked each time I asked them to embrace or kiss, and I never knew! They were so blissfully happy that even that nervousness was never shown. 🙂
When they arrived at the celebratory dinner, we all had a good laugh over it, and they said it felt so natural. And THAT’S what I love to hear!
Cheers to Brenton and Ana and a lifetime of love and laughter!
PS – Can we just talk about what a wonderful job Brenton did picking out that STUNNING ring?!
